The American Transportation Research Institute’s annual Top Industry Issues survey is again drawing attention as trucking companies and drivers assess the sector’s most pressing challenges. The survey comes as signs emerge that the freight recession may be easing, potentially shifting the industry’s priorities.
Economic Conditions Remain a Key Question
For the past several years, freight demand, operating costs and broader economic conditions have ranked among the trucking industry’s leading concerns. With the three-year freight downturn showing signs of improvement, the latest survey is expected to indicate whether the economy remains the industry’s top issue.
Other issues being closely watched include the driver shortage, truck parking availability, fuel prices, freight fraud and driver wages.

The survey also reflects the emergence of newer issues affecting trucking. Artificial intelligence and English-language proficiency are among the topics that could receive increased attention from industry participants.

“For more than two decades, the Top Industry Issues list has been essential reading for any professional seeking to gain deeper insight into the current state of trucking,” ATA Chairman Greg Hodgen said in a news release.
The annual ranking is widely used by trucking organizations and policymakers to identify operational, regulatory and economic issues affecting the freight transportation industry.
