Trucker Drives Through Nashville Grocery Store Amid Detention Time Dispute
A truck driver has been arrested after police said he intentionally drove a tractor-trailer through the front of an Aldi grocery store in East Nashville, causing more than $250,000 in damage. No injuries were reported.
Driver Faces Felony Vandalism Charge
Kristofer Scruggs, 34, is charged with felony vandalism involving damage exceeding $250,000. The incident occurred around midnight Thursday, Sept. 17, at the Aldi store on Gallatin Avenue in Nashville, Tennessee.
According to an arrest affidavit, Scruggs told officers that he intentionally drove the tractor-trailer into the store. Police said the truck was hauling a trailer loaded with cake mix and was scheduled to make a delivery to the grocery store.
Security Video Shows Truck Entering Store
Security video obtained by local news outlets shows the tractor-trailer circling the parking lot before driving toward the building and through the area near the front entrance.
The collision caused extensive damage to the store, with authorities estimating the loss at more than $250,000. The truck entered the building near the front doors, but no customers or employees were reported injured.
Investigation Continues
Scruggs was taken into custody following the incident. The felony vandalism charge is based on the damage estimate and allegations that the collision was intentional.
Aldi provided a statement expressing relief that no one was hurt. Additional details about the circumstances leading up to the crash were not immediately available.
