DOT Announces Major Investment to Break Land Line Media’s Bottleneck

The U.S. Department of Transportation has announced $426 million in infrastructure funding for critical freight and highway projects in 12 states through the Nationally Significant Multimodal Freight & Highway Projects, or INFRA, program.

Funding targets freight bottlenecks

The projects are intended to improve transportation infrastructure and address congestion affecting the nation’s supply chain. One of the supported efforts is aimed at eliminating a freight bottleneck ranked among the top 100 in the United States.

Freight bottlenecks can increase travel times, operating costs and delivery uncertainty for trucking companies and other supply-chain operators. Federal investment in these locations is designed to improve the movement of goods on key highway and multimodal corridors.

Virginia among states receiving support

In Virginia, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said the Commonwealth Transportation Board will receive funding for two transportation projects through the program. The available information did not identify the projects or provide a detailed breakdown of Virginia’s allocation.

INFRA program supports major transportation projects

The INFRA program provides federal assistance for large-scale projects considered important to freight movement and the broader national transportation network. Eligible improvements may involve highways, bridges and other infrastructure supporting the movement of commercial traffic.
