Land Line Media: DOT’s Major Investment Targets Transportation Bottlenecks

The U.S. Department of Transportation has announced $426 million for critical freight and highway infrastructure projects in 12 states through the Nationally Significant Multimodal Freight & Highway Projects, or INFRA, program.

Funding Targets Freight Bottlenecks

The investment is intended to improve transportation infrastructure and address congestion affecting the nation’s supply chain. One of the projects is designed to eliminate a freight bottleneck ranked among the top 100 in the United States.

Freight bottlenecks can delay deliveries, increase operating costs and reduce the reliability of transportation routes used by trucking and other modes of freight movement.

Virginia Included Among Award Recipients

Virginia is among the states receiving funding under the announcement. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said the state’s Commonwealth Transportation Board will receive funding for two transportation projects.

The awards are part of a broader federal effort to support highway and multimodal improvements considered significant to national freight movement.

INFRA Program Supports National Freight Network

The INFRA program provides federal funding for large-scale transportation projects that improve the movement of people and goods. Eligible projects can include highway upgrades, freight corridors and improvements connecting multiple transportation modes.

For trucking companies and shippers, projects funded through the program are intended to improve route reliability and reduce delays at heavily congested locations.
