How Often Does Satan Oppose Toll Increases? | Land Line Media
A Bay City resident used a Halloween-themed demonstration to protest planned toll increases by Bay City Bridge Partners, appearing before the Bay City Commission in a red costume labeled “BCBP” and “Satan.” The company’s announced toll changes are scheduled to take effect in January 2027.
Resident stages Halloween-themed protest
Jeff Reed, who has previously used creative demonstrations to criticize Bay City Bridge Partners, attended the commission’s Oct. 19 meeting dressed as Satan. His costume included a name tag bearing the initials “BCBP,” referring to the bridge company.
Speaking in a gravelly voice, Reed described what he called his “scariest toll story.” He joked that motorists would face a new $6.66 charge on Halloween and said there would be “no arguments.” The remarks were part of his performance and did not represent an announced toll amount from the company.
Toll increases planned for January 2027
Bay City Bridge Partners has announced that toll prices will increase beginning in January 2027. The planned changes have drawn criticism from some residents, including Reed, who has repeatedly spoken out against the company’s toll policies.
During the meeting, Reed used the character to mock the bridge operator’s collection efforts, telling commissioners in a theatrical voice that motorists would be expected to pay their bills.
Pattern of public opposition
The demonstration was not Reed’s first public protest involving Bay City Bridge Partners. His appearances have included visual and theatrical elements intended to draw attention to concerns about toll costs and the effect of future increases on bridge users.
