Great Dane, Wabash Recall Trailers Over Dangerous Drop and Stop Defects
Great Dane Trailers is recalling certain 2027 Champion and Everest van trailers because welds on the landing gear support structure may fail, potentially causing the landing gear to collapse. PACCAR also issued a recall affecting 69 trucks over an upper-coupler assembly issue that could prevent proper trailer coupling.
Great Dane trailer recall involves landing gear
According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the welds on the landing gear K-braces may fail on certain 2027 Great Dane Champion and Everest van trailers.
If the welds fail, the landing gear could collapse. The recall notice identifies the condition as a safety-related defect and places the affected trailers under a “Do Not Tow” warning.
Owners and operators of potentially affected trailers should review the recall notification and contact Great Dane for information about the remedy.
PACCAR recall affects 69 trucks
PACCAR Incorporated is recalling certain 2027 Peterbilt 567, 579 and 589 trucks, along with Kenworth T680, T880, W900 and W990 models.
The recall affects 69 vehicles. The trucks may have been manufactured with an incorrect bottom plate installed in the upper coupler. That condition could allow the kingpin to protrude and prevent the trailer from coupling properly.
A trailer that does not couple correctly may detach or fail to remain securely connected, increasing the risk of a crash. PACCAR is expected to notify affected owners and provide instructions for having the coupler inspected and corrected.
Recall information
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration maintains recall records for commercial vehicles and equipment. Fleets should compare vehicle identification numbers and trailer identification information with official recall notices before putting affected equipment into service.
