Northeast States Unleash ‘Wicked’ Enforcement Blitz
State police agencies in six Northeastern states will conduct a three-day enforcement operation targeting dangerous, distracted and commercial vehicle violations on major highways and cross-border corridors from October 13 through October 15, 2026.
Six States Join Regional Enforcement Effort
Massachusetts State Police announced “Operation Wicked Safe” alongside law enforcement partners from Connecticut, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont. The initiative will use highly visible and targeted patrols to encourage compliance with posted speed limits and other traffic laws during a busy travel period.
Participating troopers will focus on major roadways throughout the region, including interstate highways and corridors frequently used by commercial and passenger traffic.
Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Planned
Commercial vehicle enforcement will be a priority during the operation. Massachusetts State Police truck teams are expected to conduct inspections and monitor commercial vehicle activity as part of the effort.
Some weigh stations that are not normally open will operate during the enforcement period, according to Massachusetts State Police officials. The agency did not provide additional details about the specific stations or inspection levels planned.
Agencies Target Dangerous Driving
Officials from the participating states said the operation is intended to deter dangerous driving and improve compliance with traffic laws. Enforcement will address violations such as distracted driving, speeding and other conduct that contributes to crashes.
Connecticut State Police Commanding Officer Daniel Loughman said troopers in that state will increase patrols during the operation. New Hampshire State Police also will participate in the regional effort.
Operation Wicked Safe will run from October 13 through October 15, 2026, across Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.
