PBR Offers Reward After $70K Beer Heist
Thieves stole more than 1,500 cases of Pabst Blue Ribbon and non-alcoholic Old Milwaukee beer in two separate thefts from the same distribution center in Montclair, California, prompting Pabst Brewing Co. to offer a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to the recovery of the cargo.
Two thefts reported at Montclair warehouse
Montclair police said the thefts occurred on the same day at a Southern California distribution facility. A police report identified the stolen cargo as roughly 34,000 cans of beer, representing more than 1,500 cases.
Pabst CEO Greig DeBow said the company is seeking new information that could lead to the recovery of 1,602 cases of Pabst Blue Ribbon and non-alcoholic Old Milwaukee beer. The company described the shipment as a truckload weighing approximately 40,000 pounds.
Pabst sets return deadline
In a public appeal, Pabst referred to the incident as the “Great American Beer Heist” and urged the thieves to return the beer with no questions asked.
“We don’t fault you for wanting to brag to your friends how much PBR you have, we just wish you obtained it the honorable way,” the company said.
Pabst gave the thieves 18 days and 44 minutes to return the cargo. The timing appears to reference the brand’s founding in 1844, although the company has not confirmed that connection.
Reward offered for information
Pabst said it is offering up to $20,000 for new information that helps solve the case and leads to the recovery of the stolen beer. The company said the reward will remain available during the return period.
