Daimler Trucks Recalled Again After Repairs Fail
Daimler Truck North America is recalling 2,404 Freightliner Cascadia and Western Star 49X trucks after some vehicles received an incompatible software remedy during earlier brake-related recalls instead of the required replacement components.
Trucks Previously Repaired Under Earlier Recalls
The recall covers certain 2020-2023 Freightliner Cascadia trucks and 2022 Western Star 49X trucks that were previously repaired under recall numbers 23V073 or 22V817.
DTNA said the affected vehicles received a software fix when replacement brake modulator valves were required to address the original defect. The condition could affect braking performance and create a road hazard for other motorists, potentially increasing the risk of a crash without warning.
Dealers Will Replace Brake Modulator Valves
Authorized dealers will replace the brake modulator valves at no cost to owners. The repair is intended to provide the hardware remedy required under the earlier recalls.
Owners whose trucks were repaired under either previous recall should have the vehicle inspected and receive the new repair if it is covered by the recall.
Owner Notifications and Contact Information
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Nov. 8. Daimler Truck North America has identified the recall as F1039.
Owners can contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712 for additional information or to determine whether a vehicle is included. Repairs will be completed free of charge.
