Another Carrier Seeks Exemption From Steady-Burning Light Rule

Metronet is asking the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration for an exemption from federal rules requiring exterior lighting devices on commercial motor vehicles to operate with a steady-burning light.

Request Filed With FMCSA

The request is scheduled to appear in the Federal Register on Wednesday, Nov. 4. Metronet is seeking permission to use lighting equipment that does not comply with the steady-burning requirement under current federal regulations.

The company’s filing is part of a broader trend involving motor carriers seeking exemptions from specific equipment requirements when existing rules do not accommodate newer vehicle or lighting configurations.

FMCSA Review

FMCSA will review the request under its exemption process. The agency typically evaluates whether a proposed exemption would maintain a level of safety equivalent to, or greater than, the level provided by the existing regulation.

The notice will provide additional details about the request and outline the agency’s process for reviewing public comments before making a final decision.
