House Resolution Celebrates National Truck Driver Appreciation Week
Congresswoman Harriet Hageman (R-Wyo.) has introduced a resolution supporting the designation of Sept. 13-19, 2026, as National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, an annual observance recognizing the nation’s professional truck drivers and their role in moving essential goods.
Resolution recognizes professional drivers
According to Hageman’s office, the resolution “thanks the 3.6 million Americans who drive for hours on end to keep supply chains strong, enabling an unprecedented era of abundance.”
The resolution highlights the work of truck drivers who transport food, medicine, clothing, household goods, construction materials, fuel and other products that support communities across the country.
Annual observance dates back to 1998
National Truck Driver Appreciation Week was established in 1998 by the American Trucking Associations. The annual observance is intended to recognize professional drivers and help the public understand their importance to daily life and the U.S. economy.
Professional truck drivers move more than 72% of the nation’s total freight tonnage, according to industry data cited in connection with the observance. The trucking industry employs approximately 3.6 million professional drivers nationwide.
Industry groups plan recognition events
State trucking associations, motor carriers, suppliers, travel centers and other industry organizations are expected to recognize drivers during the week of Sept. 13-19. Planned activities may include terminal events, appreciation meals, gift bags and giveaways at truck stops and rest areas.
The American Trucking Associations is encouraging carriers and industry organizations to involve local communities in the weeklong recognition effort. Organizers also commonly provide ways for over-the-road and regional drivers to participate while they are away from their home terminals.
The observance provides an opportunity for trucking companies, shippers, customers and the general public to recognize the professional drivers who keep hospitals, grocery stores, fuel stations, banks and other businesses supplied.
