Motus Problems Keep Biennial Update Requirement on Hold
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has temporarily suspended enforcement of its biennial update requirement during the transition to the new Motus registration system. The agency also has stopped inactivating USDOT numbers for carriers and other registrants that have missed the required filing.
Enforcement suspended during Motus transition
FMCSA said the suspension will remain in effect until further notice. The agency said it will provide “ample warning” before reinstating the biennial update requirement.
The temporary relief follows problems associated with the rollout of Motus, FMCSA’s new registration system. The agency previously announced in July that it had suspended the inactivation of USDOT numbers for entities that had not completed a required update since June 1.
Biennial update requirement
The MCS-150 biennial update is a mandatory filing for motor carriers with a USDOT number. The filing is used to update registration information with FMCSA every two years.
FMCSA also noted that Motus no longer provides a biennial update option. The agency has not announced when enforcement and USDOT number inactivations will resume.
