Trucker Stabbed 17 Times at Wyoming Rest Area
A 28-year-old Sikh truck driver from Northern California is recovering after authorities say he was beaten and stabbed 17 times inside a restroom at Wyoming’s Bitter Creek Rest Area along Interstate 80. A suspect was arrested about 90 minutes after the early Sunday attack and faces an attempted first-degree murder charge.
Attack at Bitter Creek Rest Area
The stabbing occurred shortly after 3 a.m. at the rest area in Sweetwater County, according to authorities. The victim, identified in reports as a Sacramento-area truck driver named Singh, was allegedly followed into the men’s restroom by 45-year-old Andrew Kris Bzdak.
An arrest warrant alleges that Bzdak attacked Singh from behind with a knife. The victim was stabbed 17 times, including twice in the neck and twice in the chest. Reports also state that Singh was beaten during the attack.
Suspect Taken Into Custody
Investigators reviewed camera footage from a nearby parked truck, which reportedly showed the victim entering the restroom before a man wearing a black sweater followed him inside.
Bzdak allegedly fled the rest area in a semi-truck and traveled east toward Rawlins. Wyoming Highway Patrol officers took him into custody roughly 90 minutes after the initial 911 call, according to the reported arrest details.
Investigation Continues
The victim’s attorney described the attack as unprovoked. Authorities have charged Bzdak with attempted first-degree murder in connection with the stabbing.
The allegations remain subject to court proceedings. The investigation is being handled by the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office and the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
