🚧 **Nationwide Road-Weather Update**
Widespread flooding is creating hazardous travel across parts of the Plains and Midwest:
– **Kansas:** Flooding continues across south-central and central Kansas, including Wichita, Hutchinson, McPherson, Marion, Newton, Wellington and surrounding areas. Up to **5 inches of rain** has fallen, with additional rain possible. Numerous roads and low-water crossings remain flooded in **Greeley and Wichita counties**. A flood warning includes the **Kansas Turnpike between mile markers 130–161** through late tonight; other warnings continue into Friday morning.
– **Nebraska:** Flooding affects the **Salt Creek near Ashland and Greenwood, Big Blue River near Crete and Beatrice, Lincoln Creek near Seward, and Turkey Creek near De Witt and Wilber**. County roads are inundated in places; **Highway 6 near Ashland, State Highway 77 near Beatrice, and roads near Fairbury** may be impacted through the weekend.
– **Iowa:** Flooding is ongoing around **Waterloo, Cedar Falls, Grundy Center and surrounding areas**, with numerous road closures, including **I-380 between mile markers 65–73**. The **Des Moines, Raccoon and North Raccoon rivers** are expected to rise, and portions of **US-169 near Perry** may be affected through Saturday.
– **Missouri and eastern Iowa:** Rising rivers are causing or threatening flooding along the **Grand River**, especially near Chillicothe, Pattonsburg, Gallatin, Sumner and Brunswick, as well as the **Des Moines River near St. Francisville**. Rural roads and low-lying areas may be underwater.
– **Texas:** Flooding is expected along the **Llano River near Llano**, making secondary roads and low-water crossings—including **Ranch Road 3404/Slab Road near Kingsland**—dangerous. Heavy rain is also causing roadway flooding near **Rio Grande City, Roma, La Joya, Crockett, Trinity and surrounding communities**.
– **Illinois/Wisconsin:** Heavy rain is producing standing water and poor-drainage flooding around **Chicago, Aurora, Naperville, Joliet, Bolingbrook and nearby areas**. The **Lower Fox River near New Munster** may reach flood stage by Friday evening; the watch continues through Sunday afternoon.
– **Florida and Colorado:** Minor river flooding continues near **Astor, Florida**, while the **Arkansas River near Lamar, Colorado**, remains in minor flood stage through Friday morning.
**Driving safety:** Never drive through floodwater or around barricades—turn around, don’t drown. Slow down, allow extra stopping distance, avoid low-water crossings, and use extreme caution at night when flooded roads are harder to see.
